THE CONCORDANT BODIES OF FREEMASONRY
Symbolic Lodge – This is the foundation of the entire system of Freemasonry. Truly, a beautiful system of morality that is veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. Degrees 1-3 are conferred in the Symbolic Lodge.
The Consistory – Considered the “University” of Freemasonry and is the Scottish Rite branch of the Order. Here, the philosophy and ethical teachings of the Symbolic Lodge are expanded and taught through dramatic presentations. Degrees 4-33 can be conferred though the Scottish Rite.
The Royal Arch – This is the first house along the path of the York Rite Mason. In the “Red House”, you become more familiar with the spiritual teachings of Freemasonry and it is also considered to be the most beautiful of the branches of the Fraternity. Here the degrees of Mark Master, Past Master, Most Excellent Master, and the Royal Arch are conferred.
The Council of Royal and Select Masters – This is next along the York Rite path. The degrees of the “Purple House” are also called the “Cryptic Degrees.” Here, the lessons of secrecy and loyalty are expounded upon. Conferred in this house are the degrees of Royal Master, Select Master, and Super-Excellent Master.
Knights Templar – This is the final part of the York Rite, the “Black House”. The teachings here are about protecting those that cannot protect themselves. Fighting side by side with fellow Sir Knights to defend the enemies of Christianity is the purpose of the faithful member of this Order. Knights of the Red Cross, the Order of Malta, and the Order of the Temple are the degrees conferred here.
Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine – established to be the “Fun House” of Masonry. Also, the world’s largest philanthropic organization – administering 22 hospitals in 3 countries that care for children free of charge. Degree and ceremonial work based on Ancient Egyptian themes and the Islamic religion. Anyone petitioning to be a Noble must already be a member of Knights Templar or of the Consistory.
